KEWPIE DOLL PENDANT C 1910 9CT ROSE GOLD WITH 18CT YELLOW GOLD CHAIN
Sweetest Kewpie Doll Pendant crafted in 9ct Rose Gold, on an 18ct Gold chain.
Named the Kewpie doll, this ADORABLE character was first created by cartoonist Rose O'Neill around 1909 and quickly became an international hit. The Kewpie was described by Rose O'Neill as "a sort of little round fairy whose one idea is to teach people to be merry and kind at the same time". Often thought of as a good luck token in a time of uncertainty on the verge of WW1. The name 'Kewpie' derives from Cupid, the Roman god of erotic love.
Gold kewpies, such as this one, are becoming increasingly rare. This good-sized hollow Kewpie pendant dates back to the late Edwardian Era, circa 1910's. It is made of 9ct yellow rose gold - a lovely rose glow with a hint of yellow.
This Kewpie features little angel wings, along with all the typical sweet attributes- large eyes, a quaint little smile, raised eyebrows, with tiny ear, hand, feet and hair details, along with dimpled knees, and a little pot-bell – oh so gorgeous!
